About

ERIN BOYLAN, MA, LPC, ATR-P, EMDR-TRAINED

Every human has capacity to heal from trauma given the right conditions, and the ability access the higher self with the right support.  From our personal healing we can step out into collective healing, so our own unique talents can find a sense of belonging and purpose. My mission is to build a strong, resilient, & unbreakable community of women and LGBTQIA people.

I believe…

Erin is a therapist, artist, and social justice advocate who strives to help empower women and the LGBTQIA community as they heal from trauma.

Opening up about all of our vulnerable bits to a complete stranger can be a scary process. A variety of life altering events lead me to this field, so I understand this truth on both personal and professional levels. Here are some of my professional achievements, which I include in the hopes to communicate you are in good hands: I graduated in 2016 from Naropa University, in Boulder Colorado with a duel masters degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology and Art Therapy.  I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Colorado, and am nationally listed as a Registered Art Therapist - Provisional through the Art Therapy Credentialing Board. In addition to these credentials, I completed an EMDRIA-Approved EMDR Basic Training in 2021 and completed advanced training for EMDR-Certification in 2022. I’ve attended numerous trainings in trauma over the years, to include meeting trauma expert Dr. Bessel van der Kolk in 2017.

As a therapist, I approach our sessions with genuineness, depth, cozy attunement, creativity, and realness. In my realness, you’ll hear me curse while talking about the ick that brings you in just as much as I’ll celebrate you with your successes. I’ll challenge you to see different perspectives and to develop a balance of grit and softness to empower the changes you want in life. It’s important to me to help you understand your nervous system after trauma to increase your ability to be embodied with a sense of mastery and compassion when things get hard. Needless to say, I hold a strong yet tender container for your broken parts to pour out their pain and overcome hardship while you grow into your higher Self.

Life has a way of presenting what can feel like insurmountable challenges that distract us from our true nature. As women, life has trained us to abandon our wildly powerful nature to fit within the confines of supportive roles to others. When we hit rock bottom it creates a crack for our greatness to flood through, though often the pain of breaking distracts us in an unbearable way. Together we'll mend those cracks with gold. Sometimes we just need a lighthouse to show us the way back to our greatness, or to uncover it for the first time. Thanks for taking the time to see if I'm a good fit as you embark on your healing journey.

In our work together we'll make feelings real and tangible through the art process so we can confront and let go of them in a healthy way, and find wisdom through visual metaphor. My approach heavily uses EMDR, decolonized Feminist Psychology, Mindfulness, world wisdom traditions, and Trauma-Informed Practices. I'm passionate about working with women and the LGBTQIA community who are wanting to resolve trauma and PTSD.

At this moment you've encountered a crossroad in your journey, life may feel painful and raw, but it doesn't have to stay that way. You deserve a vibrant life beyond that of your imagination, and I'd be honored to walk you home to your most authentic and powerful nature. Let’s work together to rebuild the pain of living into a story of empowerment.

I am a dog mom of two Great Danes and in my free time enjoy making art, reading, gardening, hiking, being in nature, and spending time with family and friends.  I am honored to be a part of your sacred therapeutic journey towards a healthier and happier life, and I very much look forward to connecting with you soon.

My values

Intersectionality

Our various cultural identities meld and define our experience of discrimination and disadvantage, it also provides access to our inherent power and privilege. In a safe container we can unlearn the harmful messages of oppression and redefine how we work with both our marginalized and privileged identities. As a white woman, I am continuously doing the work to undo the socialization of white supremacy and colonial constructs in order to be anti-racist.

Connection

I believe in the power of deep connection. As a human and as a therapist, I feel most alive when unpacking story, exploring the depths of humanity, uncovering subtlety, cultivating space for magic and ancestors, the phenomenology of existence and experience, bridging the somatic with intellect. The act of being known is life changing and life affirming, we are biologically hard-wired for connection.

Social Justice

As a trauma therapist I believe that helping clients heal in session is only half of my work. I believe the only way to reduce the impact of trauma is to engage in radical acts of advocacy and social justice for lasting changes that create a more equitable society that cherishes diversity and human rights.
